London, September 10. Enquiries made at Lloyds regarding the rates covering the risk of an early election resulted in a quotation of 20 per cent, within six months and 50 per cent, within twelve months. The theatres are especially anxious.
INDIGNANT SOLDIERY.

The rector of South Hinksey, Oxfordshire, where the Guards are manoeuvring, inserted in his parish magazine a warning to parents not to let their girls abroad in the evening without adult escort. The officers of tho Guards are very indignant and consider the aspersion scandalous. Tho men, they' say, have very little time for flirting.

The Pall Mall Gazette states that the New. Zealand Shipping Company shares have risen to £2O. The market expects an important shipping deal to be announced shortly, with a fresh issue of capital, giving shareholders a bonus.
It is rumored that there is an understanding between the New Zealand Shi])ing Company, the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, and a third lino.
The Financial Times foreshadows an arrangement of sailing dates mutually agreeable on the basis of an interchange of tickets and other concessions, facilitating the profitable working of the fleets, ,
