THE NEW TOKO HOTEL.
AN UP-TO-DATE BUILDING. The plans prepared show that the premises to be built to replace the Toko Hotel, recently burnt down, will bo up-to-date in every respect. The building is to be erected on a new site—opposite the Coronation Hall, on the' corner of Station and Ohura Roads. It will be of two stories and will contain twenty rooms. The main entrance fronts Station Road, and on the left of -it is the bar space (public bar, private bar and bar parlor) and on the right the commercial and sitting room, which overlooks the railway station. The public liar is entered from Station Road and the private bar has an entrance from Ohura Road. The'private hotel entrance is from Ohura Road, and leads to the staircase and the dining room, which is 24ft by 14ft. The back end of the building on the left is occupied by a bedroom and sewing room for the use of the family, a storeroom and the’ laundry; The kitchen, 18ft by 14ft, is on the right behind the dining room. All the fittings in this part of the building have been carefully selected to comply with the regulations of the Health Department.' From the landing on the stains on the second floor two bedrooms lead off. The landing leads to a passage running the whole length of the building. On the left are seven single bedrooms, and on the right three double bedrooms and a sitting room, the windows of which face Station Road and the railway station. The bathroom is situated at the back of the building on the right. A balcony run® around the front and two sides of the house, and to this all of the rooms on the second floor have access. At the back steps run down to the yard from the balcony, but in case fire should make it unsafe to rise these steps four iron ladders, which can be dropped at a moment’s | notice, are provided—two in the front 1 and one on each side. Sewage from : the house will be dealt with by a
septic tank. Lighting will be done by Dreadnought Gas, which i« made from petrol and which is claimed to he clean and safe. It has been in use for the past five years for lighting the township of Waipukurau, and it is now being installed for public lighting at Taumarunui, Otane and Riverton. Tenders for the building close with the architect, Mr A. D. Thick, on September 22nd, and it is hoped to have the building finished about the end of December.
