Directly after word was received by the Stratford Operatic Society that they could not bo granted pervnisjion to produce "'Jhe Piiates of l\r>za i .■*'," a letter was despatched to the J. C Williamson' Co. placing the farts of the case before the company and making an appeal for reconsideration. At the time the letter was sent rot much hope was entertained of its success, though the Society was determined to leave no stone unturned in the matter. But the appeal made has had a result hardly expected, but none the less highly welcome. To-'laj Mr F. H. Wilkie, secretary of the Society, received from the Company a cablegram stating that it had been de-| cided to grant the desired permission.
