The Dublin employers alleged thai trade unions often failed to cany out written settlements, and the employers were endeavoring to abolish them.
A STOUT REFUSAL
[Per Phess .Association.] Dunedin, September 5
An authoritative message from the north states that the N.Z. Coal Mine Owners' Association has refused to re cognise or negotiate with the United Federation of Labour in connection with the Blackball strike, pending the West Coast agreement, both of which matters had been handed over to the Federation for its control by the workers concerned. It is understood that ■the companies are quite prepared to meet the men themselves in any matter that may be in dispute when agreements are come to. The question of whether they should be registered kinder the Arbitration Act will come up for consideration.
