FIRE.

A RESIDENCE DESTROYED. [Per Press -Association.] Invercargill, September 5. A seven-roomed house, owned by the Maher Estate, and occupied by f. Keating, was destroyed by fire at 4,30 this morning. The inmates escaped in their night attire. The furniture was insured for €2OO and the house for £3OO with the Commercial Union office.

CONFLAGRATION AT WAITtJI. Mr R, T. Williams, of Waitui, met with a serious loss on Thursday nighf in the shape of his large shed and

contents which were totally destroyed by fire as well as a large quantity.of harness, farm implements, seed oats. grass seed and artificial manures, besides lots of other things not enumerated. Mr Williams estimates his loss at certainly not less than £3OO, in addition to insurances and probably vorv much more.—Record.
