A brutal murder was committed at Forest Bridge, near Jerilderie. A sliearer was found with his head and face battered to a pulp. A cheque was found in his pocket. He was a young and temperate man. It is supposed that the motive was robbery. ('Received 8.30 a.ra.) Melbourne, September 5. As anticipated, Mr Fisher’s censuie motion was negatived on the casting, vote of the Speaker. Twenty-two voted each side, and witli five pairs’ the full strength of the House was accounted for. The Address-in-Reply was then
adopted on the voices, and the House adjourned. Sydney, September 5. The Herald predicts that owing to the death of Mr Kelly, consequent on the critical state of the parties, there will be an early and abrupt termination of the State session. Mr Holman vouchsafed no reply to
a question in the Assembly as to whether lie was in a position to contradict the persistent statements that the session was going to end next week. Mr Wade’s question as to whether the Premier intended to issue a writ for the vacant seat also failed to draw information. The Herald adds that it is understood that a meeting of the caucus issued a ukase to the Ministry that in view of the closeness of numbers, Parliament should close without delay.

A Redistribution Bill which has been introduced into the Assembly provides for an increase in the membership ol the Council from eighteen to twenty, and the Assembly from forty to fortysix.
. Melbourne, September 5. The Chinn enquiry before the Senate Committee is proceeding. Chinn was severely cross-examined regarding his qualifications as an engineer. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Sydney, September 5. The week’s wool sales closed firfn with good competition at opening rates.
