According to a letter' from a trader at the New Hebrides, an expedition from the French warship was sent to Epi to punish the natives for the recent murder of a French planter who was seized and hound by the natives Three villages were raided, mid tiv houses confiscated with the property found therein. The natives were kept abord the warship till the actual murderers, who belonged to another vil-. lage, were banded over. Only a portion of the property wa.s returned.
