CHRISTCHURCH" SESSIONS. .ill i<s .iti-1.4 [Per Press A|3sooxa,txon.l , , Christchurch, August| 27. , A new jury was empanelled this morning and the charge of manslaughter preferred against Phillip James Kelly, was heard again. After a protracted sitting the jury disagreed and was discharged. Kelly was charged with having, on July 24, caused the death of Ida Una Heath Bradley by negligently driving a taxi-cab. After tliree and threequarter hours’ retirement, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. INVERCARGILL SESSIONS. Invercargill, August 27. At the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Williams, David Taylor was found guilty of assaulting Jhmes White at Riverton, so as to cause actual bodily harm. Prisoner was admitted to probation fof twelve months on condition that he paid costs of prosecution and a contribution towards White’s medical expenses and abstained from liquor. John Edward Blouquest came up for sentence on a charge of committing an assault causing actual bodily harm at Lumsden. ifis Honor sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor and to be detained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding, three, years. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. Auckland, August 27. At the Supreme Court to-day, Alexander Gore Brett, late, clerk of the' Eden Terrace Road Board, was found guilty of having defrauded the Board between September and July last- of £2J7. Counsel said that carelessness and not criminal intent was the cause of the trouble. The jury recommend,ed lenient treatment,* and accused was. ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, provided that he made s restitution.
