A WRONGFUL EVICTION. [Feu Piiess Association.] Wellington, August 21. Dr. McArthur gave judgment'today in a case which attracted some attention,; in which Francis Aldorton »ued Edward Ellis for damages for wrongful , ejectment, When two weeks* rent was due Ellis was evicted by Alderton’s family, who put the furniture out and locked the house. The Magistrate held that it was the landlord’s duty to have taken legal proceedings and issued a writ for possession. Judgment was for plain-' tiff for £5 damages and for Ellis for £1 8s rent. NO-LICENSE POSTCARD. Wellington, August 20. Jtt a special meeting of the New Zealand Alliance Executive this afternoon, the following rsolution was adopted:—“That the executive of the New Zealand Alliance has learned, with much surprise and regret, that its resolution repudiating the postcard concerning the Bible-in-schoole and prohibition has been understood in any quarter as disclaiming reaponsibility. While tactily approving of the thing itself, the intention of the executive was to dissociate the Alliance in every sense from the postcard in qustion, and it strongly disapproved both of the matter of the card and cf the manner in which it appears to have been circulated. We would resent any attempt to force members of the Alliance, as such, to take either one side or the other on the Bible in State schools question, and wo deplore the base attack which, professedly in the interest of temperance refprm, has been made upon the supporters of the Bible in State Schools League.”
