Mass meetings of the raihvaymen have been held at Hyde Park, Doncaster, York, Liverpool and Birmingham, in celebration of the 1912 strike. The meetings indicated a strong spirit of .invest and also a sharp difference of opinion between the leaders. Twenty thousand were present at iiyde Park. Some of the speakers referred to the executive disdainfully. The meeting carried a resolution denanding the executive to initiate a campaign against non-unionism and urged it to fix a date whereon railwaymen must be unionists and then insist in eight hours and a thirty shillings weekly minimum. Similar resolutions were carried dsewhore. .Mr Williams, the general secretary, speaking at York, said that' the pretent method of conciliation was too slow. I’lr.iES— Sydney Sun Special Cables. Fifty thousand unemployed are demanding work. The’ Government is ignoring the demand, asserting -that the agitation is staged in the interests of the Social democracy propaganda.
IN NEED OF MONEY. [United Press Association.] (Received 10.0 a.in.) London, August 18. Tlie Executive of the Committee of the Northumberland Miners’ Association has issued a circular announcing that there is a hank overdraft of Clo,ooo which will shortly he increased to CIO,OOO. The Executive, which is about to hold a ballot for and against a strike, asks; “Where will the money come from if there is a strike?”
