THE SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC. A SERIOUS POSITION L\ SYDNEY. [Hi Electric Telegraph—Copyiuoht] [United Press Association.] Sydney, August IS, There has boon a recrudescence or the smallpox during the last few days. Twelve cases were discovered to-day. Sixty-seven patients are now in quarantine, with 173 convalescents. Pour suspicious cases were reported from different country districts, including a shearer at lialronald, ano is a Victorian, and has never been in Sydney. BAD CASE IN WELLINGTON. Wellington, August 18. About G. 30 o’clock this evening a quartermaster of the steamer Delphic visited a local doctor suffering aitn rash. The case has been diagnosed as an advanced stage ol smallpox The man joined the vessel at Auck land last Wednesday. The vessel was strictly quarantined to-night. Several coal lumpers engaged u bunkering aboard the Delphic ha\c been detained on board by the police. The stevedores who worked the cargo, and a number of others who \ isited the Delphic have gone to their homes The authorities will decide to-raorora what will be done. The case has been sent to the mo lalion block at the hospital.
