THE SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC.
DECREASING IN SYDNEY. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, [United Press Association.] Sydney, August 14. Only two smallpox cases were reported to-day, the lowest record sine* the epidemic started. N.Z. OFFICIAL BULLETIN. ' [Per Press Association.] Wellington, August 14.
The following smallpox bulletin was issued by the Deputy Chief Health Officer this evening:— The District Health Officer, Auckland (Dr. Monk), reports that no fresh cases have been reported in Auckland since yesterday's report. A sus picious case, but regarded as verj doubtful, is reported from Onehunga. The case is quarantined. Five more cases are reported from Kaikoho. Forty cases in all stages are reported from Whananald (Marsden county). The District Health Officer at Wellington (Dr. Chesson) reports the case of a Maori girl at Porangahau (PataIngata county). Though medical consultation regards the case as a severe typo of chickenpox, nevertheless the patient has been removed to'isolation premises .and contacts isolated and quarantined, those unvaccinated being vaccinated. The house in question is in a very isolated position, and steps have been taken to inspect and investigate at all places where the pntient was lately resident.
