The majority of horses were slaughtered, but five were kept alive, being fed on the slaughtered flesh. Captain Kocli_ fell 42 feet down a 'deep crevasse and was laid up with a broken leg for thre months. Violent blizzards were encountered jduring the 750-mile march. I ,The horses became snow-blind and three of those which became exhausted were killed. ! A sailor rescued by the expedition had been without food for 35 hours, and had just killed, cooked, and was ;about to cat a dog which had accompanied him the whole way.
I [Captain J. P. Koch proposed to 'make, an expedition into inland Greenland, beyond th Mountain of Queen Louise Land. He hoped after spending the winter in scientific {work co start across the inland ice last May.]
