AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY'S PICTURES. Despite the counter attractions a very fair attendance greeted last night's change of pictures at Bernard's. The programme proved to he a real tip-top one. The star film, "The Shadows of the Night," is a detective story of most thrilling episodes. There is not one moment of dullness throughout the picture, and judging by the scenes the picture must have cost some thousands of pounds and great peril to life and limb. "Confidence" and "The Little Organ Player of San Juan," are pathetic yet life-like. The Pa the Gazette is as usual very interesting, giving a vivid idea of current topics. "Customs in Lapland" is a highly educational picture, and introduces the manner in which these little folk of the snow and ice-bound territory exist. The management announce that amateur competitions will commence on Friday next, when prizes of one guinea downwards will be presented to the best local amateur comic singers. Intending competitors must hand in their names not later than Wednesday next.
