UNAUTHORISED EXPENDITURE

[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir, —When Mr Massey and his socalled “reform” party travelled through the country a year or two ago, they wailed about the enormous amount of money spent as unauthorised, and that the Liberal Government was autocratic, and members of Parliament had no voice in that portion of expenditure, and it should be stopped, and when they got into power members should have a say on the spending of every shilling. Now, sir, the clean, honest, square-dealing “reformers” have spent more money under the heading of unauthorised than any previous Government that ever sat on the Treasury benches. The highest sum ever spent by the Liberals was £123,000 in one year, and the Massey crowd howled for a solid week over it. Now, sir, I suppose Mr Massey and his henchman, Mr Hinq, will be moved to merriment at the fact that they have spent the unprecedented sum of £191,000 out 'of unauthorised. They have also added five millions to the public debt in one year,' and borrowed £200,000 from the Advances to Settlers’ Office, and the farmer lias had to go without, unless he borrowed from Mr Massey’s plutocratic friends at Bto 10 per cent. And this is “reform.” Mr Royd Garlick at £6OO a year to teach hoys to stand on their heads and girls Id sit down quick without hurting themselves, and over £700,000 increas'd in administration expenses! No wonder the Grey people said, no more “reform.” If this is the game they are playing, surely the people who howled for this kind of “reform” have got a fairly close for one year. The’ reduction of income tax on wages over £7 a week is j one more, and a lot more to follow.— j ! am, etc., C. D. SOLE, August 11, 1913.
