SUFFRAGETTE DISORDER. IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] London, August 11. Tiie promoters of the Trafalgar Square demonstration were dismayed at Sylvia Pankhurst’s appearance. Mr J. C. Wedgewood, a member of the House of Commons, was presiding, and discountenanced disorder. Suddenly Sylvia Panklmrst climbed to the plinth and unfurled a flag inscribed “Deeds, Not Words. The argument of sticks
and stones is going to win women’s freedom.” After a violent tirade, closely attended by a bodyguard of East End youths, she ran to p Whitehall, The police arrested her along with ton men and eleven women.
THE REVISED VERSION. A party of militants at Westminster Abbey chanted the Panklmrst litany and refused to desist. The vergers escorted them outside. AFTER LLOYD GEORGE. London, August 11. Mr Lloyd George, returning to London, altered his plans and stopped the express at a wayside station, frustrating a suffragette hold-up. 1 ‘APPROPRIATE PUNISHMENT. ’ ’ (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, August 11. At the unveiling of a cross at Grisely, Lord Harewood, in commending the disuse of the old village stocks, said it was appropriate punishment for suffragettes. * .
