A WOMAN IN THE CASE.
THE SHOpTIiN'C AT PUKEHINAU. Dannevirke, August 5. "[Per Pukss Association.! Details regarding the shooting anrav at Vukehinau are meagre. Trederick Ireland, the inar allegedly shot by Wm. Clements, was brought to Dannevriko hospital this afternoon. His condition is most surious. The gun was leaded with shot, and the doctor extracted about 30 pellets from the injured man's head. Clements was arrest 1 arly this morning and is now in custody on a chaige of alleged attempted murder.
Tli« attempt appears to have been a very deliberate one. The parties [live together, and when going to bed Clements told Ireland that his horse was in a fence. He decoyed Ireland some distance oway. Ireland asked: "Where is the horse?" Clements said: "Here, here," and allegedly fired two barrels into Ireland. The latter then ran away to a neighbour, who informed the police. A constable went and found Clements and Mrs Ireland locked in the house. Both were arrested and remanded to appear at Palmerston next Monday.
