On Monday, 28th inst., at my Urenui yards there was a good entry, the majority being springing heifers and dairy cows. Springing heifers (good) sold up to £l3 10s, good sorts from £7 5s to £9, aged or late ealvers £4 15s to £o los, springing heifers from £4 10s to £7 os, good lines of yearling heifers £3 3s to £3 5s 6d, small yearling steers £2, to £2 2s 6d, IS months steers £3 14s, store cows £3 12s to £4 ss, very prime fat cow £9, others £7 10s* £7, ss,- £6 Bs, £6 ss, £5 12s, £5 ss, bulls £3. 4s to £4 12s 6d, empty heifers £3 10s to £l, good hoggets -12 s 2d,- forward and fat wethers 19s Iti. ~, ....,, At Rahotu .on T«csday,' 29th inst., I had a full yarding of "cattle, "chiefly yearlings and dairy cows and heifers. , Bidding throughout was brisk, the whole yarding with the exception of some backward in calf heifers being cleared at the hammer. About 300 yearlings were yarded, these selling very readily at advanced rates. I supply prices: Good yearling steers £2 14s 6d, others (bit rough) £2 Is to £2 3s, nice pen of Shorthorn yearling heifers £3 3s, others £2 4s to £2 17s, small and poor £1 lis, mixed yearlings £2 4s 3d to £2 Bs6d, small and bad colored stuff £1 Is 6d to £1 13s, bulls £1 18s<6d to £3 2s-' 6d, stor.e cows £3 2s' to £4 55, ; fat cows £5 4.7 s to £6 2s, 'forward 1 empty ewes' 14s, springing heifers £6. to £7,. dairy cows from £7 to£ll, block dray £ll. Since my last- report my staff has been kept very busy with sales all over the''district, two sales being held every day :with the exception of Monday and Thursday, when three were "conducted, and in most cases excellent averages have been obtained. The highest average this week was for A. N. Mills' herd, which were a well selected grade line, selling very readily at from £8 15s to £lB, averaging £l2 6s 3d for the line of 38 cows and 7 heifers.
On Thursday, 21th inst., at Riverlea, for Mr S. G. Clarke's sale, I had a fine attendance, including buyers from Wanganui, and the cows being a very nice line, mostly Ayrshires, sold under excellent competition, the herd, of. 75 averaging just, £lO per head. This was one of-the best, sales I have had' this season. Hennessey's sale, there being only a small herd and no! sundries, 1 had a small attendance, 1 hut cows sold at satisfactory prices, •the best at from £9 5s to £l3 15s, I and averaging £8 7s for the line of! 28, yearling'heifers made £2 9s 6d, factory shares Gs. ..-■ On Monday, 28th inst., at Ngaere, there was,.a ..good attendance, for Mr (i. M. Hamilton's sale, and the cows, .which, wevp a very .mixed lot, in many instances "aged, made,,.a very satisfactory average of £7. 5s for the .herd of 15. The best cows sold at from £8 os to £ll ss, others £5 to £7 10s, aged £3 15s to £4 10s, bulls £4 15s to £5 ss, yearling heifers £2 15s 6d, springing heifers £4 15s, bay gelding £3O. On the same day (Monday) at the Urenui yards, the best of Mr J. W. Ross's dairy cows, realised from £9 5s to £l3 10s, good £7 to £B, aged or late calvera £4 10s to £5 ss.
At Huirangi on tlie same day, instructed by tlit) Public Trustee, I sold the cows, horses and sundries in the estate of Thomas Landman, deceased. The herd of cows were a grade line of all, ages, the youngest and better quality cows selling readily, the very aged calvors or late cows selling at store prices. Young cows brought from £8 to £lO, good sorts, but bit late £G 10:; to' £7 ss, cows carrying fair amount of age £-1 15s to £6 ss, empty looking cows £3 2s (>cl to £1 10s, very aged cows £2 2s 6d to £3 15s.' The hordes were very good, selling under keen competition. Heavy 5 year old mare by Empire £4l IDs. 7 year mare Ruby £3B, unbroken filly by Empire £35 10s, aged mare £0 15s. On Tuesday, 29th inst., at Rowan,
tor Messrs Tate ami Barnsley's sale, there was an excellent attendance, ind the herd of cows, being a nice lot, 1 obtained keen bidding through>ut, the herd of 40, which included 5 | cows, making a good average of £9 )s. Cows in milk sold at from £8 5s to £l2, choice young cows £9 15s to £ls, good but bit aged £b' to £S Los, three-quarter cows up to £9, nnpty cows £2 10s, pedigree Jersey mil lOgns., weaner to yearling hoifjrs (poor) £2 15s, 6 year bay gelding £l7, disc harrows £B, mower £6 10s, plough £6, jacks £2 7s 6d and £2 LUs. On the same day at my Rahotu yards 1 submitted Mr Arthur Cave's (airy herd. These cows were mostly. i young line, hut not showing a great leal of dairy quality. The pick of these sold at from £8 10s to £ll, jthers £6 to £9, averaging £7 17s 9d for the herd. Empty cows £3 15s, 8 /ear three-quarter draught gelding £29, aged gelding £lB £e. The in•alf heifers were a fair lot, the pick, i fine 3 year Shorthorn, bringing £9 >s 9d, other& £5 5s to £7 ss. On the Barrett Road, Omata, for Vlr A. X. Mills' clearing sale on Wednesday, 30th iust, I had an excellent ittendance of buyers from all parts of faranaki. The herd of cows were a ■ery line line, which had given the lig return of £ls 9s per Jiead from nilk alone at the Omata factory. Bidling for the best cows was very brisk, ho herd of 38 cows and 7 2 year in ■alf heifers realising as stated above i, nice average of £l2 6s 3d per head, "hoice young cows brought from £l2 o £lß,' good £9 10s to £ll, cows nth rather much age from £7 to £8 '.55., empty cows £4. ss, aged f cows 33 10s, pedigree Ayrshire 2 year heif■rs sgns to 7igns, and a very choice ine of in-calf 2 year old Jersey heif■rs, all by the pedigree bull "Mills' Reward," and in calf to a dine young >edigrec bull, "Belvedere's Coin," sold mder keen competition to Mr Win. rloneyfield at £l3 15s. Robion's sale on the Bird Road, Stratord, there was only a fair attendance, i.nd competition was rather on the lack side, but a good average of £9 2s 6d was obtained for the line of '0 cows. On Thursday, 31st, at Puniko, I ibid on account Mr Wm. Grant, one >f the finest herds of dairy herds I live ever submitted to the hammer. Che cows were an exceptionally choice ine and in great condition, their anility and condition reflecting the greatest credit upon Mr Grant's selection and care. There was a fair atendance, hut prices, esppcial,ly for he in-calf cows, r were ndj;, in ,keepng Avith the merits of the stock, alhough the herd of 80 cows, inclining late' calvers, averaged £lO 16s id. The cows which had just calved ncluded some splendid types of dairy 'attle, and realised better values, 'hoice springing cows realised £lB, 111, £ls. £l3 10s, £l2 10s, £l2, £ll, rood springing cows' £9 to £lO, cows, ater calvers, £6'lss to £8 10s, choice n milk cows £l7 and £l6 10s. A -ery choice well grown line of 26 Jersey yearling heifers, in great •ondition, sold at prices in favor of myers, the pick bringing £4 17s, md the balance £4 3s 6d. On the same day at my Stratford yards for Messrs Hammerton Bros,, -.ale there was only a fair attendance. The herd of cows were in good eondiion, hut were only a moderate line, behest cows realising from £8 to £ll, "air sorts £6 to £7 15s, late calvers 54 15s to £5 10s, 3 cows £5 10s, empty •ows £3 7s. to £4 15s. On the same day at Kaponga there vas a good' attendance for Mr Harrngton's sale, the herd making a very satisfactory average of just over £9. Joed young cows sold up to £lO 15s, air sorts £7 10s to £9 10s, late calvrs and aged £6 to £7, aged cows £3 'os to £4 10s, empty cows £2 to £4 15s, bull £7 15s, black gelding £B, Iray £9 10s. I have still'to report good enquiry 'or stock for all classes, ami with an mprovoment for good in-calf 3-year rjade heifers.
