THE SYDNEY HORSE SALES. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] JUnited Press Association.] Sydney, August 4. At the annual draught horse sales prices were, very fair. Some imported Shire stallions sold very cheaply. A bid of 360gns for Bramhpp Pluto, a six-year-old imported Shire stallion, was refused. Shires sold at S7i to 195 gns., and draughts at Signs to 12ogns, Two, on account of Mr James Grant, of Hawera, brought 36gns and 66gns. On account of Mr Samuel Wilson, of Riccartpn, Main's Laird sold at OOgns. The top price was 400 guineas, which was given for the New Zealand-bred Craig Willie, 2$ years old. f 'WHITE AUSTRALIA" POLICY.

The Consul-General for China is departing homeward, and in his farewell speech said he hoped Australian legislation would be modified to give discretionary powers and admit a better class of merchants and students without imperilling the White Australia, policy. The present rebellion in China would soon bo ended, as the intelligent Chinese would never return to monarchical government, HUDDART-PARKER S.S. CO. (Received 10,0 a.m.) Sydney, August 5. With the advent of the steamer Riverina, Huddart Parker intend to inaugurate carrying third-class passengers to New Zealand.
