NORTON LOSES THE CASE

Mr Justice Isaacs, summing up in the case, Norton versus Herald, solicitor, said there was considerable difference of opinion as to what instructions defendant received at the outset of the libel action. One side or the other had been telling the Court what they knew to be untrue. The jury returned a general verdict for defendant, and judgment was given for defendant with costs. IMPORTER HEAVILY FINED. John C. Winder, importer, was fined .£11)00 for offences against the Customs Act in connection with the importation of goods. Four shipments were involved.

SIGNED POLITICAL ARTICLES

A deputation from the Provincial Press Associations of Australia and Victoria ,to Mr Kelly, Acting Minister for Homo Affairs, protested against the clauses in the Electoral AcL 'relating to signed articles, returns of advertisements, and publication of ballot papers. Mr Kelly, in a sympathetic reply, foreshadowed their abolition.
