A congress of mechanical engineers at Cambridge discussed Professor Hopkinson’a system for cooling gas engines, which involves supplanting the external by the internal application of water by means of a sprinkler projecting on the combustion chamber. The deleterious ‘effects of corrosion are avoided by keeping the whole engine above 100 degrees centigrade. Thus all the water is boiled before it ■ roaches the wall cylinder.
