IMMIGRATION DECREASE
SIR GEORGE REID’S REPORT
[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright [United Press Association.]
(Received 10.15 a.m.) Melbourne, July 30
Sir George Reid in his third annual report, states that he is of the opinion that immigration into Australia in the coming year will not equal the past two years. The principal reasons are that there lias been a great improvement in labour conditions in Britain ; the constant changing of fares to assisted immigrants and the conditions under which they were accepted; the increase in the ordinary third-class fare; and keener competition among the Oversea Dominions i- or British immigrants.
