ALLEGED MURDER.
CHARGE AGAINST A HOSPITAL
ATTENDANT

[United Press Association. ' Christehurch, July 27. A serious charge has been preferred against Joseph Martin Chapman, lately attendant at Sunnyside Mental Hospital, who was arrested this morning by Detective Ward and Torrens. 'About three weeks ago a patient in the Mental Hospital, named Charles Thomas MoMeekan, died in the institution, and an inquest was held by Mr T. A. B. Bailey, 5.M.,. who returned a verdict that death was due to hemorrhage of the lungs. It was stated, however, that the circumstance* connected with. McMeekan's death were such that the authorities caused further investigations to be. made, and it is understood that ks a consequence Chapman was suspended and the whole matter was put in the hands of the police for further investigation. The detectives made very searching en'quiries into the matter, and thie morning Detectives Ward and Torrens arrested Chapman on a charge of inuri der.
Christchnrch, July 28. Josepli Martin Chapman appeared at the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with having caused the death of Charles Thomas McMeekan at Sunnyside Mental Hospital -and was remanded till Friday.
