FOUND DROWNED
[Per Press Association.l Auckland, July 28. Miss Mary Ann Fletcher, aged 70, residing at Devonport, left her boarding house for a walk on Saturday afternoon, and as she had not returned by 10.30 p.m. a search was made. Her dead body was found on the beach it Stanley Bay. Her clothes were wet and there was a bruise over one eye. together with other indications of drowning. Deceased had evidently removed the rings from her finger© before she went out, as these were found packed neatly in her room with her wearing apparel.
A STRANGE EXPERIENCE
Thomas Madden was discovered standing on a plank under the ferry jetty on Saturday night, having evidently been in the water. He bad a bad cut on the back of his bead and his nose was broken. Madden states that he was drinking with several companions, one of '«hom v.as offended because he missed a drink He alleges that subsequently on the wharf this man .struck him several times and pushed him into the harbor. He declined to give tne nan's mime, asserting that they would settle him later. On Madden being taken to the hospital his condition was found not to be dangerous.
