WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
COUNCIL'S MONTHLY .MEETING. The monthly meeting of the WJiangamomona County Council was held ou Wednesday. Present: Crs. .Meredith (chairman), W. A. McCutchan, W. Bacon, E. 15. Roberton, H. R. Cleland, and J. Diggins. It was decided to refer the mattei' of having repairs made to the Ohura Road through the Whangamomona township to the member for the district with a request for his best efforts towards obtaining aid from the Minister tor Public Works. It' is to he Dointed out that a deadlock has been arrived at between (he Department and the Council with regard to the repairs as the Department's officials had refused or ignored the Council's repeated applications for this work. The oninion was expressed that nothing short of Ministerial inspection and instructions will remedy the existing state of affairs, which not only render the conditions of life unbearable in the township but also constitute a grave menaco to the public health.. Messrs. Bradley and Fargie waited on tho Council and requested that a plank walk be constructed between the bridge and footpath.—The Engineer was instructed to have the work put. in band. The Engineer was instructed to rail tenders for the Strathmore bridge, closing fourteen days after the material is in hand, and in tho meantime to procure the necessary timber and ironwork from tho Public Works Department.—Other instructions to the Engineer were: To have tho fillinsgs at the Makahu Road north bridge put in hand; to procuro metal for the purpose of repairing the road to the Huiakama creamery; to procuro 50yds of screened metal for the Ohura Road in tho Strathmoro Riding.
Applications, closing in a fortnight, are to be called for the position of foreman in the Pohokura Hiding, same to be dealt with by the Chairman and Engineer. The Commissioner of Crown Lands is to bo- again written to asking what steps have been taken towards granting a reserve as a site for a foreman's uharo in Tahora township. It was decided that all poundage fees earned after working hours be retained by T. Langton, but that fees for cattle impounded during working hours ba handed to the Council.
Application is to be made at once for the grant of £2O for the Mangaoata. Iload.
Fresh application (by telegram) is to be made for the £IOOO drainage loan.
The application of J. M. .Jones foi a subsidy for Mangarewa Road was endorsed, and will be forwarded to the Minister for Public Works.
Messrs' Klee, Hendry and Long wrote asking for access to sections on Domain Street.—The Engineer is to prepare an estimate or cost, and if it exceeds £l2 the Clerk is to enquiry if the interested parties are willing to raise the balance required.
Thirds from . Brewer, Makahu, Kini, Murcott and Tapuni, Roads were scheduled for metalling on Brewer and Murcott Roads. Thirds on Mangaeliu, Favier, Huiakama and Ohura Reads were schedided for ordinary maintenance. Other thirds were scheduled for maintenance as follows: Whangamomona Road in Strat'hmore Mangaone, Prospect, Marco. Kohuratahi, Ohura, Whangamomona, Poarangi, Okara, Marangae, Mauku, Mold, Mangaoata, Whitiauga Roads. Mr 1 Coxhead is to be asked if he is willing to have the thirds from section 5 scheduled for maintenance of Putikituna Road. It was resolved that Messrs Scott and Armstrong ho charged £1 per annum and Mr Anderson 10s per annum for leases of road reserve in township. The Engineer was instructed to have the culvert in front of the stables in the township covered. Cr. Roberton had his Vote against the motion recorded.
