OUTBREAK AT TE KARAKA

Gisborne, July 25. A billiard-room at Te Karaka, owned by McMahon and occupied by Befferman, was destroyed by fire, also rthe adjoining dwelling, occupied b\ -Hanley, baker. The building occupied by the Bank of New Zealand was pulled down to prevent the flames spreading to the< hotel. • It was insured for £lO5 in the South British and the stock for a similar •mount in the same office. The other
.{•buildings destroyed were owned by : H. F. Northe. The bank building was insured for-£75 and cottage for £IOO, also in the South British office. The -hotel licensee has a policy of £llOO on •' the' stock and furniture in thf /Royal office.
A HOUSE DESTROYED
Hastings, July 25
A fire occurred this afternoon in a five-roomed cottage in Avenue road, occupied by Herbert Pullcn and owned by John Coivan junior. The flames hid a good hold when the alarm was given, and despite the efforts of the firomon, the interior of the building Wa«. gutted. No one was at home When the fire commenced.
