Mexico City, July 23
The mob tore the British and American flags from the flag-poles and trampled upon them, simultaneously hoisting the Japanese flag, afterwards marching through the streets behind it and cheering Japan.
Later they visited President Huerta’s palace. The President refused tc receive them.
Extensive demonstrations have beci arranged in honor of the arrival o the new Japanese Ministers.
DEMONSTRATIONS • SUPPRESSED
Washington, July 24
The demonstration of welcome to the Japanese Minister at Mexico City passed without incident. The police were ordered to strictly suppress antiAmerican or anti-English demonstrations.
President Wilson has considered the suggestion to abrogate the neutrality laws in order to allow the importation of arms to Mexico, with the ultimate object of allowing the rival factions to fight to a finish. President Wilson refused the proposal.
