: • The death of Mr J. W. Turner. of Technical Uduca- \ New South Wales, at the age of 64 is announced from Sydney. Mr H. Graham, the new caretaker of‘the North Egmont Hostelry, takes up his residence there early next week and commences his duties on Angus Ist.
Mr H. Trimble has been appointed ' the Education Board’s representative ou the advisory committee of the New Plymouth Technical College.

The golden wedding to-day ot ' Colonel and Mrs W. B. Messenger, of New Plymouth, was tho occasion of a remarkable gathering, the company including the two bridesmaids and the best man and seven sons and three daughters. One daughter and one sou were absent. P.A.
Colonel Knox, of the Army Service Corps, who came out under three years’ engagement to the New Zealand Defence Department, and has since been Quartermaster-General of the Dominion forces, will return to England j at the expiration of his term at the end of next February.
The Hon. J. Allen (Minister for Finance), who has suffered severely from the effects of vaccination, has been confined to his bed during the last day or two, and he has not yet been in the House this week. It is possible that Mr Allen’s indisposition will delay the appearance of the Financial Statement for a short period. I?

-Mr F. W. Keddell, of Greymouth,' died suddenly at tho age of forty-two. He was a son of the late Major Jackson Keddell, of Oamaru, and was widely known on the West Coast. He was prominent in many public movements, and was connected as secretary with a number of corporations and institutions. Mr Keddell left a widow •'r and family of seven.
■ The death has occurred under tragic, 5; * circumstances of Dr. E. Maynard jP&in, at one time superintendent at the Royal Prince, Alfred Hospital, and subsequently medical missionary at . Cairo. He contracted cerebro-spmal meningitis from a patient he was treating and died within 36 hours. Dr. Pain was well known to a large circle of medical men and others in Sydney.
Mr A. Stewart, who, after a residence in the Stratford district of about twenty years, has decided to take up his residence at Ratapiko, near Tariki, was last night formally bidden farewell by his neighbors on 1 Nash and the vicinity. There was a largo gathering of settlers. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Abraham and Caldwell. After an excellent musical programme had been gone through, Mr Lehmann, on behalf of those present, made a presentation to Mr Stsw'art of a silver tea and coffee service on a handsome oak tray. Mr Lehmann’s eulogistic remarks regarding the guest of the evening were heartily endors-
~ ed by Messrs. W. Corkill, A. Mackie, fcr H. Styles, Q. Pratt, and Hastle, Mr Stewart responding in a few wellchosen words. The Misses Mackie, gave invaluable aid in the musical programme, which was very much enjoyed. The concluding part of the evening was pleasantly spent in dancing and card-playing.
