EDUCATION BOARD.

-MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the laraaaki Education Board was held yesterday, when there were present; Messrs H. Trimble (in the chair), G. A. Admin, J. Young, il. Masters, A. M. Bradbury, W. Ungers, W. McL. Kennedy and A. Morton.

The chairman reported that the following temporary appointments Jiao been made:-—Bird, Miss it. Giddy, assistant; Herekapa, -Miss E. HalJiday, teacher; Matau, Miss IT binipson, sole teacher; Kaimata, .Miss G. Thompson, assistant ; Stanley, Miss J. Auld, assistant; Whangamomona, Miss McAloon, assistant. The Technical Director reported as follows on the Stratford school;— Blasses have been keeping up tiieir strength. Specimens ot millinery which had been sent to tne New Ply.nouth show were on view in Messrs Bellringer Bros.’ window at Stratford. Mr Tyrer had reported that the class in millinery would be strong.

1 he matter of a new gate at Stanley and repairs to residence at Stratford were referred to the overseer.

'J he following grants and subsidies to committees were authorised for payment. Stanley, £3 for material ior fences and gates; York £1 15s towards cost of drainage; York £1 14s for wire and staples for fence; Ngaere, £3 for metalling playground; Denbigh, £4 14s 8d for fencing and gates. School committees were also granted subsidies as follows ;—Whangamomona, £ for £ towards the cost of gravelling the school ground ana rlso hedge plants; Tututawa, £5 to wards renewal of fences and gates; Midhirst, £ for £ subsidy not to exceed £G for the improvement of school grounds, work to he done to the satisfaction of Mr Masters; Cardiff, cost of material for gravelling school grounds.

It was reported that Mr 11. McK. Morison (Agricultural Instructor), liad visited Frankley, Carrington, and Central Schools.

The new pattern of dual desks will be supplied for the headmaster’s room it Ngaere. The matter of the lease of the Tabora School grounds was referred to Mr Kennedy to report upon. The following teachers were granted leave of absence on account of illness: —Miss Fanny Hill, Whangamomona, me month; Mr Ellicott, Waingongoro, two weeks; Miss Wallach, Piko, cw 6 days; Mr Lusk, Central School, mo week. The Board approved of the sugges:ion of the Bird -Road Committee as o occupation of land now leased by Mr Paterson ,at t}y? expiry of his lease, die committee to be given to underdand that they will be expected to keep the grounds in order.

It was resolved to forward a copy of Inspector Gill’s report of the Stratford District High School (a highly satisafetory one) to the headmaster, of the. Stratford School.
