The Herald states: “The Peninsular and Orient Steamship Company is dropping the Auckland service on the recommendation of Mr Wesche, the
company’s superintendent in Austra lin.”
Mr Wesche, in an interview, said: “It is not possible to state whether tire service will be discontinued this coming season, which commences in November. We are awaiting advice from London by letter, when wo expect to get full particulars of the proposed change. I received a cable some time ago to the effect that the move was in contemplation. The contents of the cable are of such a nature as to cause me to withdraw the announcements from the paper, hub ! am awaiting fuller details before proceeding further into the matter. Meantime I think it highly possible that the vessels will not Ire proceeding to Auckland next season. As a matter of fact, I suggested they should not.”
