CONDITIONS ON THE RAN D.

DIVIDENDS AND DEATHS. [ By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! [United Press Association.] (.Received 9.20 a.m.) Capetown, July 21. At a meeting of 3500 people in the City Hall at Balmsforth, a popular Unitarian preacher painted a lurid picture of labor conditions on the Rand. It was alleged that while dividends of 220 to 270 per cent, were paid, the sacredness of human life was lacking. The speaker created a sensation by stating that since the war 100,000 lives had been sacrificed. The meeting passed a resolution asking the Imperial Government to inquire into the cases of shooting women and children.
