DUKES AND DANCERS.
A contemporary recalls the fact that there is a rather strange history regarding Duke Lndwig of Bavaria, who has just been divorced from his wife. He is the brother of Elizabeth, Empress of Austria. On May 28th, 1859, after having previously renounced his rights as eldest son of the Duke of Bavaria, he contracted a morganatic marriage with Henrietta Mendel, a beautiful young actress who was created Baroness von Wallersee. The only offspring of the union was the Countess of Larisch, associated with the Crown Prince Rudolph of Austria, who came to such an untimely end, and about whose death so many strange stories were circulated. The Countess of Larisch has just published a very interesting book entitled "My Story," in which she gives her version of her dealings with the Crown Prince. The Duke's first wife, mother of this lady, died, as ha 3 been stated in the cables, in 1891, and a \v< ek afterwards he married a ballet dancer, forty years vrnger tha'.i HPnself.
