PAHIATUA COMPETITIONS

[Pica Press Association.] Pahiatua, July 17

The third annual festival of t.:r Pahiatua Competitions Society opened yesterday. It proved a great success, there being over 200 entries, which is a record, competitors coming form all parts of Wellington province. Following are the results: Prepared speech: Mrs J. Cairns (Masterton) 1, W. J. Sturtom (Eketahuna) 2. Impromptu speech: D. B. Anderson 1, J. J. Ford 2. Musical monologue foi ladies: Miss Aitchison (Kaitawa) 1, Miss A. Taylor and Miss L. Brown tied for second place. Recitations: for ladies (humorous), Mrs Cairns 1. Miss K. G. Miller 2; for girls under 16, Hazel Jeffrey (Wellington) J. Paula Shotlauder 2; for boys under twelve, J. Walsh 1, C. Brown (Mangatainoka) 2; for boys under nine, J. Walsh 1, J. Bringans (Mangamutu) 2; for girls under nine, Marie Kelly (Konini) 1, Mavis Smith (Mangamutu) 2.
