WHEREAS certain places situated in Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Hay Health Districts are, or are supposed to be, infected with a dangerous infectious disease, to wit, Smallpox, AND WHEREAS the said disease is specially prevalent amongst tho Maoris and half-case Maoris residing in the said Districts, Now, therefor, I, Thomas Harcourt Ambrose Valintine, Chief Health Officer under tho Public Health Act, 1908, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by section 18 of tho said Act, and acting under the authority of His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, do hereby until further notice forbid Maoris or half-caste Maoris to be brought by means of the New Zealand Government Railways from any place situated within tho Auckland, Wellington and Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to any other place situated within any of the said Districts or from any place situated in the said Auckland, Wellingon or Hawke’s Bay Health Districts to any other place in New Zealand unless such Maori or half-caste Maori produces a certificate under the hand of an officer of the Public Health Department or under the hand of a Public Vaccinator authorising him or her to travel upon the said Railways.
