gestion that the Towers should impose an armistice in the Balkans, rcmaiked Utat in view of the passions that accompanied the struggle and the appalling risks incurred by the combatants mere words were outside the pale of the Towers, and were unlike lv to affect the situation. Bulgaria liad appealed to Russia to secuxe a cessation of the hostilities, and Ser via and Greece had agreed upon the conditions which they insist Bulgaria must accept before the cessation. 1 was vitally important that the Bowers should continue mutually to con suit. There was every reason to behlieve that matters would be brought to a satisfactory termination.

It is stated that Servia and Greece will shortly ask tho Powers to com inuicate to Bulgaria the preliminary terms of peace, which must be signet, oa tho battlefield. It is hinted tlia, the conditions will not be final if the negotiations are prolonged, in which case the Servians and Greeks w;l. march on Sofia.

Tho rest of the Servians are'advancing towards Sofia, and a great battle is raging outside Kustendil. The Bulgarians are offering a heroic resistance. There has been terrible slaughter or both sides.

It is semi-officially announced thathe Greek irregulars landed at Lef tera and occupied the town of Pravil massacring nearly the whole of th Bulgarian Mussulman population Those escaping arrived at Drama. Fifteen thousand fugitives bar reached Gornadjumaya and fifty thou sand are en route foodless. It is authoritatively stated that Bui garia has recalled her armies fron Servian territory, thus emphasisin' her sincerity in giving Russia ful powers.
