INDUSTRIAL LAWS

Sydney, July 14

Dr. Robertson, a leading South Coast coal-owner, before the Industrial Commission", declared that the whole .industrial laws were a complete failure. A new race of officials, specially educated to scent out so-called grievances, had heeft called into being. There was perpetual unrest from the extravagant demands caused through union officials. This had resulted in estranging the masters and -men. Workmen who once vied with each other in tho amount and quality of their work were now taught to restrain their efforts to the level of the least efficient. At the same time, there was a perpetual demand for less work,'fewer hours and more pay. He was convinced that no law ‘ would ever stop strikes. The industrial laws were only observed by both sides as it suited them.
