COASTAL STEAMER IN TROUBLE [Pun Press Association.] 'Wellington, July 14.
The small coastal steamer Aorere, which left Wellington last Thursday right for Patea, lost her propeller at 8 o’clock on, Friday morning. The vessel was then 20 miles from Patea She Was put under canvas, and after dodging About Cook Strait till this evening, managed to heat up to VVellington Heads. There she was picked up bv the Tutanekai, returning* from cable repairs. The vessel is not leaking.
RAILWAY APPEAL BOARDWellington, July 11* The Railway Appeal Board to-day heard tho appeal of H. F. M. Carr, shunter, of Wellington, against his discharge from the Service for absenting himself from duty without leave, and for being under tho influence ot drink while on duty. The assessors (Messrs C. P. Ryan and D- Dwyer) considered that he should have the benefit of the doubt, and bo recommended for reinstatement, the chanman (Dr. McArthur, S.M.), dissented from this finding. These findings will bo forwarded to the Minister ot Railways." The appeal of William Noble, clerk at Wellington, against receiving less pay on promotion than another man similarly promoted, was dismissed.
