A SHOOTING ACCIDENT

John William Willis, of Ohaugatai, aged 20, was out .shooting pheasants with his father and a companion named Heise on Sunday morning at Kakahi. The dogs were frisking about Heise, and he brought the muzzle ot his gun round to ward them off, when the gun went off, killing Willis instantly. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest.
DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC. Wellington, July 14. • Thomas Flint, a farm laborer, died in a private hospital to-day while undergoing an operation under an anaesthetic for the removal of varicose veins.
PAINFUL ACCIDENT. Wellington, July 14. Peter Jackson, employed on the railway at Paekakariki, had both his thighs broken to-day while assisting to lift an engine with a jack. The jack gave way and a portion of the engine struck Jackson. The man was brought to Wellington; and now lies in a critical condition.
