[from our own correspondent.] The Medical Association called a jpecial general meeting on Tuesday light last, the object being to enable the public to know how the exe■utive..committee had progressed in .he matter of securing a doctor for .he district. Mr F. Court was voted m the chair, and a large audience istened to his reading of the secretary's report of business transacted to late. A keen but amiable discussion then took place on the various ideas irought forward as to “how to go
bout it,” and on the motion of Mr R. G. Fawkner the committee’s report was received and general approval was expressed of the progress made. The arrangements for the Whanga bazaar are going steadily forward, the ladies’ committee in particular working very consistently uud .harmonious,y. The sewing guild ‘has ‘ a ‘mee” )iice a week to make up materials ,f all kinds and shapes into articles >f a saleable nature. Tlie “bee” meets it a different member’s house each reek, and under the direction of Mrs \lee, is doing splendid work. Mr H. Jakes has"returned from a lOliday trip- to Auckland and district. aken to present Messrs Jones and \. Miller, who are leaving the disrict, with a handsome travelling rug each. Mr R. Hill, overseer of bridges made the presentations, and on behalf f the bridgemen wished them and heir wives God-speed and prosperity. The inaugural ceremony of the newly formed branch of the 1.0.0. F., Vmerican Constitution, took place last light (Friday), the officers of the Disrict Grand Lodge being present to (induct proceedings. After the mem10ns were initiated and the various ectures read, officers were appointed
rod sworn in, the visitors expressing ileasure at the new branch’s excellent leginning. After business, which hosted till 11.30, a social evening was riven by the members, songs were aing, toasts were honoured, and many lattering and eulogistic speeches were made both by the “locals” and the visitors. The visitors from Stratford vho left for home again by the 450 v.m. train were entertained until that time by the local members in royal fashion.

■nrd in the matter of attendance, and ■yerything went off merrily. The ladies’ prize (a framed picture donated by Mr JR. J. Scott) was won by Mrs T. Aylward and the. gents’ prize (safety razor) was won by Mr T. Aylward.
