Mr Walsh’s Nationalisation Bill was not taken seriously by the House of Commons. The speaker remarked that it seemed to involve some slight .‘barge upon the taxpayers. (Laughter.) ' The Bill (to nationalise coal mines and minerals and lor the distribution of sale of coal) provides for compensation to bona fide investors inmines, but withholds compensation from royalty owners. The compensation is to be computed on a quinquennium’s output, with a maximum of 10s per rton where the output is over 100,000 tons and 12s on smaller miners, payment’for the mines acquired to be by three per cent, stock, the interest to bo payable out of the earnings.
