SUPREME COURT.

CHARGE OF BIGAMY

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, July 7

The Appeal Court to-day was engaged in hearing argument in the Crown case, Rex v. Ford, a prisoner who was tried at Auckland at the last criminal sittings for bigamy. At the conclusion of the Crown case Judge Cooper directed the jury to acquit the prisoner, as there was not sufficient evidence of the alleged prior marriage. The question for the Court to consider is whether the direction of the judge was correct. Mr Ostler appeared for the Crown, and Mr Northcroft, of Hamilton, for the prisoner. Argument was not concluded at the adjournment of the Court.
