The Unity Congress spent the whole day debating the preamble to the constitution of the United Federation jpi Labor, and, eventually on the matter lieing put to a vote the- result waa: For no preamble 175, for a preamble 161. The- 1 proposed 'preamble declared that wage-earners and employers nao nothing in common and that the wage system should be abolished. The opponents of preamble urged that th'e\ should first endeavor to unify all sections, and if the terms of the preamble tended to create dissensiona it should bo dropped. |'
THE BOYS OX RIPA ISLAND;

The Congress received a letter from thirteen lads who were confined on xlipa, Island for evasion of drill, detailing their experiences and describing the circumstances leading up to the hunger strike. They refused to clean guns, and were therefore placed in solitary confinement, on snort rations. They declare they will he carried off tho Island dead, or as near dead as our tormentors will allow us to get' if not allowed hack to barrack room and given full rations. The Congress carried a resolution protesting against the solitary confinement of the lads, and calling upon the Government to release thern. The Conference further decided to wait upon Mr Massey to protest against the treatment of the hoys at Ripa, Island.
