WEARING OF THE KELT.
THE SCOTTISH SOCIETY
A brilliant gathering of Scottish
ladies and gentlemen assembled at Edinburgh on May .1(5 last, to give a good “send-off” to the Scottish Society. This organisation has come into existence during the past year, ast her esult of a patriotic movement which was started, in a humble way, to encourage the wearing of the kilt. Since then it lias become plain that, while the wearing of the kilt may be a desirable object, there were other objects which appeal to the patriotism of Scotsmen at home and overseas. The original idea in connection with the foundation of the society has b’ecn considerably broadened, with the result that the objects of the society now include the cultivation of Scottish national sentiment, the preservation of Scottish traditions, as well-' as the encouragement of-the wearing of the Scottish national dress. ■ In order to further the work of the society, it is proposed that funds he set aside’to provide and maintain a club house in Edinburgh. -A; book* of laws lias been carefully compiled, and, dm one of these,’ it is set forth that “it is obligatory on all ordinary tp- j Scottish ‘ national dress at the Mort Sons of the, society mtd: tljey; are expected to do so upon every other suitable occasion.” Tims wearing of the kilt has become a serious fact to those Scotsmen who are influenced by patriotic sent fluent. 1 ” ’
