THE OMARANUT ENG AG EM EXT. [Per Press Association.] Napier, July 2. Fifty years ago to-day took place the Omaranui engagement, which practically saved Napier from attack during the Maori War. A handful of the survivors assembled on the historical ground to-day to celebrate the occasion. The roll was called and the “last post” sounded, and a short address was given by the Hon. J. I). Ormond. The party then returned to town and participated in a dinner.
