THE GAMING ACT.
THE ISSUE OF DOUBLE CARDS. [Per Press Association-.] Wellington, July 1. The Appeal Court was to-day engaged on the case Ross v. Cassells. The appeal is from the conviction at the Wellington .Magistrate's Court of Dave Poss, a bookmaker, for publishing to informant a notification as to betting within the meaning of section 30 of the Gaming Act of 1908. Detective Cassells wrote to Ross for a double card and received through the post two treble cards. Mr M. Myers, for appellant, argued that there was no evidence to connect the cards with appellant. Even assuming there was, a point of law arose whether the issue of a single card to one individual at the request of that individual was an offence within the meaning of the section quoted. Argument is proceeding.
