STEAM PACKET LICENSES.
OX THE WAXGAXUT RIVER. [Per Press Association.! Wellington, July 1. Mr Hatrick, proprietor of the Wangantri River steamers, has written to the chairman of the Commission which inquired recently into the working of the service, complaining of the references to drinking aboard the steamers which were included in the Commission's report. Mr Hatrick states that drinking arises from the fact that liquor is taken aboard chiefly by Natives ami bushnien. He denies thai: the steam packet licenses are abused.
