o——— , CHRISTCHURCH BURGLARIES. [Per Press Association.] Christchurch, June 30. The police believe that the man arrested is responsible for the burglaries perpetrated in the city and suburbs. He had been ohadowed for a fortnight. He slept in an unoccupied house, in the back yard of which a large quantity of plate was found buried. He is a Canadian, and has been three years in the Dominion. Fourteen houses have been entered since April 29th, and over £4OO worth of goods stolen. Christchurch, June 30. In connection with the burglary cases, Arthur Thomas Reid, a young man, appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on several charges of theft of goods, chiefly jewellery, valued at £IOO, from Mrs Hannah Pringle. Walter M. Huleton also appeared on a charge of breaking and entering the railway bookstall. Both accused were remanded for a week. Bail was not allowed. THE ROTOROA ISLAND TROUBLE Auckland, June 30. Gedrge Blythe, George Pope, and Jas. Dunlop were sentenced to seven days’ hard labor for insubordinate conduct on Rotorpa Island, this being the sequel to the recent trouble in consequence of which the Salvation Army had to invoke police assistance.
