In the House of Commons, Mr Macncill drew the attention of Mr Montague , Parliamentary Under-Secretary of India, regarding the three natives of Sclapur who were acquitted of murder and re-arrested five months later and found guilty. Lieutenant-Gov-ernor Hewitt had refused to grant a. respite for the purposes of appeal. Two were executed, and the third sentenced to servitude for life. Mr Montague promised a full investigation.
