EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. Ac the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board yesterday, the chairman reported re the heating atoves in the Stratford school. In company with Messrs Masters and Kennedy, he had visited the school, and found that the overseer had altered one by placing a 3ft. pipe on top of the stove, and then lead it into the chimney. From this stove, after a good fire had been »ade, there was sufficient'heat to thoroughly warm the room. The overseer was of the opinion that if a pipe Bft. long wero used, instead of one of 3ft., which was the length, of the one filtered, much more heat would be obtained.- The. chairman recommended that the alteration be effected. It was only right to say, that Mr Sanderson (architect of the school) contended that there wns no necessity to make Hie alteration, and that the stoves were specially designed to heat rooms without the use of ijipes.—The report-.was adopted. ' The Director of the Technical School reported that at Stratford an assistant class in machine construction had been started. ■ The Truant Inspector reported that ho had personally served notices on several private schools to comply with sections 152 and 170 of the Education Act, 1908. Miss Stanford (New Plymouth) and Mrs Morgan (Stratford) were the only ones who had so tar made application. He would like to ask that instructions be given to write all private and convent schools, asking them to forward' a return or defaulters at ,the end of every month. —Received. •' [\ • .
