While the statement of the affairs oi any one of the great financial institutions doing business in this Dominion must necessarily be of wide interest, it may fairly be claimed that every resident of these islands is, to some extent, concerned in the wehaiv of the Bank of New Zealand. The statement delivered by Mr H. Beauchamp (Chairman of the Board of Directors) at the annual meeting of the Hank's shareholders, held in Wellington to-day, is worthy of the closest attention, for not only does it reveal a splendid record of progress and prosperity in regard to the Bank's actual business, but it also reviews with weight and authority the present financial and commercial conditions. Dealing first with the Bank's affairs the figures given by Mr Beauchamp! show that the Bank has experienced another good year and that business; has been fully maintained. As was j well anticipated the question of in j creasing the -Bank's capital has been; found desirable, and we may expect some legislation in that direction this: session. It is specially worthy of note that the Bank's reserve has nowi reached the very satisfactory figure of £1,375,000, bearing in mind'the fact! that seven years ago this reserve '
